In the stage of survival and development, we are constantly facing challenges, overcoming difficulties and striving to achieve success in various fields. In these processes, there are three abilities that are particularly crucial, not only for personal growth, but also as a bridge to success and happiness. These are: the ability to be unafraid, the ability to make time, and the ability to keep working hard.
The ability not to be afraid: self-knowledge and courage to take responsibility
Fear follows you on your journey through life. Perhaps it is the fear of judgment from colleagues, the fear of making mistakes at work, or the uncertainty of the future. However, a true warrior is not fearless, but is able to move forward even with fear. This ability to be “unafraid” comes from a deep self-awareness and a clear definition of the boundaries of one’s abilities.
With a clear understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, what is within your ability and what you need to learn and improve, you can face challenges with more confidence. No longer afraid of the unknown, because every attempt is a step towards the edge of the comfort zone, every failure is an opportunity for growth. As the old saying goes, “If you know yourself and your enemy, you will not be in danger in a hundred battles.” On the battlefield of life, knowing yourself is the greatest victory.
Cultivating the ability to be unafraid means constantly improving self-knowledge, clarifying the boundaries of one’s own abilities, and having the courage to expand it. In this process, we will learn how to distinguish between “uncontrollable things” that are worth fearing and “controllable factors” that can be changed through efforts. When we focus on the latter, our fears naturally dissipate.
The ability to hold time: living efficiently
Time is the fairest resource, and everyone has 24 hours a day. However, how to efficiently utilize this time determines the height and width of our life. The ability to grasp time is not only related to workplace success, but also about the happiness of personal life.
Truly great people know how to focus on the most important 20% of things and spend their time where it can bring the greatest return. They don’t let trivial matters take up too much time, but instead focus on building their core competencies. This time management strategy not only improves work efficiency, but also makes life more fulfilling and meaningful.
On the contrary, most people tend to fall into the predicament of “focusing on everything, but focusing on nothing”. They try to be all things to all people, but the result is nothing. Time is cut to pieces and energy is used up in endless busyness. Therefore, learning to make time means learning to make choices and focus. Clarify your goals and priorities, and use your time on the knife edge, in order to make life more exciting.
The ability to sustain efforts: the road to success
Success requires consistent effort and persistence on our part. However, for most people, intermittent effort may be the norm. They give it their all on a whim, but soon give up out of exhaustion or frustration. This type of effort is not destined to lead to long-term success.
True effort is not feeling like effort. When we find something we really enjoy and are good at, that inside-out motivation drives us to keep going. We don’t need to deliberately stick with it because love itself is the best source of motivation. At the same time, being good at something always gives us positive feedback and a sense of accomplishment, and these positive incentives push us further forward.
Therefore, developing the ability to sustain effort is about finding what you really love and are good at. In this process, we need to keep exploring and experimenting until we find the direction that allows us to willingly put in the effort. Once we find it, we will realize that effort is no longer a burden but a pleasure.
The core competence in life is not a single skill or trait but a holistic quality synthesized from multiple competencies. The ability to be unafraid allows us to move forward bravely; the ability to manage time allows us to live efficiently; and the ability to keep working hard allows us to keep moving forward in the pursuit of our dreams. When we have these abilities, we can better cope with various challenges and opportunities in life and ultimately realize the win-win situation of self-worth and social contribution.
